The evil clone of Peter Parker, Kaine spent the majority of his life hounding fellow Peter Parker clone Ben Reilly, whom he believed to actually be the real Peter Parker, in an attempt to make him feel the way he felt as a result of his clone degeneration. This degeneration scarred his body and his mind, and left him in constant pain.

When he was finally cured of his degeneration during Spider Island, Kaine attempted to flee to Mexico and start a new life there. He made it as far as Houston, and thanks to a series of events surrounding a mysterious Mexican girl (and a Spider costume he just couldn't seem to get rid of), Kaine now finds himself hailed as the Scarlet Spider, Houston's very first superhero.

He'd rather be in Mexico.

My name is Kaine. They're calling me Scarlet Spider now. Another man's name... a better man. But I'm trying.
